Building Roots froB

“Life is a daring adventure or nothing.” –Helen Keller

Road Less Travelled Academy is a not-for-profit nature-based learning academy that educates children and youth in a natural, outdoor environment.  Located in the heart of the 11,000-acre Ganaraska Forest in Northumberland County, Ontario, RLTA is promotes academic pursuits with deep roots.  The Academy uses a nature-centered,multi-faceted approach to supporting student development through inquiry and passion-based learning.

RLTA currently uses the forest floor of the Ganaraska Forest Centre for its outdoor classroom.  With enrolment growing at an exciting rate, the Academy needs to expand its footprint, which includes the building of a sustainable classroom for extreme weather days and a community kitchen to broaden the curriculum to include cooking and foodliteracy for the students.  These enhancements will cost approximately $100,000, which is an important investment in our learning philosophy, and in particular, our children and youth.

Think Outside the Box: Building Roots for Nature-Based Learning is a fundraising campaign to help us realize these capital priorities.  It’s also an opportunity for us to engage the community as we build capacity for parents, teachers, educators and families who are working towards educational reform with a goal to reconnect children and youth with nature, exploration, and more importantly, the humanity of being young, wild and free.
